but signs of the "Greatest Show on Earth" are already popping up around Cowtown; the flags are already flyin down around the grounds and along the #1, storefronts are duly decorated and the sidewalk bars are sportin' their wood rail facades.
And while it IS known as the "Red Neck" show for those jealous types who dont live "within the confines" (sorry Cathy) there are aspects of this event that go beyond the "traditional cowboy way" For instance this years theme is "Tough Enough to Wear Pink" an effort in conjunction with Wrangler Jeans to draw attention to Breast Cancer and actually kicks the event off with "The 30 Hours of Tough". Not stopping there the Stampede Boards Parade Marshalls announcment on Wednesday raised even more eyebrows.
Forgoing the usual "Hollywood Hero" choice (altho last years was REALLY kule; Olympic cross-country skiing silver medallist Sara Renner, and Bjoernar Haakensmoen, the Norwegian coach who saved her race by handing Renner a new ski pole after hers snapped), instead opting for four young lads doing their best for "the cause"
Aaron Jackson, Benjamin Jordan, Carlos Koppen and Rob Lewis recently completed a five month, cross Canada skateboarding odyssey, entitled PUSH FOR THE CURE, which raised over $60,000 along the way, a trek inspired by the death of one of their friends mothers. Needless to say there were a LOT of surprised reporters when officials walked the four lads out on the stage the other day; the T-shirts, jeans, hoodies and sneakers standing out in the room full of cowboy hats and s**tkickers in an event that is usually as exciting as Liberace concert.
Four ordinary kids who did an extraordinary thing.
My "Cahboy" hats off to ya!

Have a GREAT WEEKEND Everyone!
