This weeks Tunesday artist comes by her musical talent naturally; shes the Grand daughter of Canadian country stars Ray and Betty Gauthier who used to open for the likes of George Jones and Little Jimmy Dickens when they managed to make their way this far North. Born in Montreal but raised in Medicine Hat, Ab, she spent afternoons listening to her mother entertain guests at the local coffee house and evenings listening to her Grandparents vast record collection; by the age of 11 she had taught herself play guitar. After graduation she took the step her Grandparents only dreamed about... she moved to Nashville and surprised everyone back home by landing a job at Tootsie's Orchid Lounge, the famous honky-tonk bar across the alley from the Ryman Auditorium!
The public started to take notice of this Jewel from the Great White North but it took the music industry a little longer... 7 years went by before she landed an audition with Mercury Records and after seeing a live performance by Clark, the label's president put her name on the bottom line... luckily he also hired a prolific writer and 4 short months later her debut album hit the stores. Backed by the MEGA HIT "Better Things to Do" and subsequent singles "When Boy Meets Girl" and "If I Were You" it certified Gold in no time and earned her a summer tour with one of her Idols - George Strait. She was also nominated Country Music Association's Horizon Award, as well as the Academy of Country Music Awards' Best New Female Vocalist.
Her follow up, 1996s JUST THE SAME sold even better than her first effort; the singles "Poor, Poor Pitiful Me" and and this weeks featured tune pushed it Platinum, reaching number 10 South of the 49th and number ONE in Canada! She subsequently won a TON of Canadian Country Music Awards, including Album of the Year and Single of the Year; she was also named the Top New Female Country Artist of 1995 by Billboard magazine.
HOW I FEEL hit the stores in the spring of '98 and the first single, "You're Easy on The Eyes" did something no other song by a Canadian Country Female artist has ever done before... it went Number One both North AND South of the 49th.
The new millinium brought FEARLESS with it and while it did well in The Great White North with the likes of "A Little Gasoline" and "Good Mother" (which was later covered by Canadas own Jann Arden) it failed to regain her top spot in the US.
The lukewarm reception made her a little gun shy and it was 3 full years till PAIN TO KILL dropped; "I Just Wanna Be Mad" and "I Wanna Do It All" once again pushed her to the top of the charts, number 3 and 5 respectively.
A Greatest Hits 1994-2004 was released the following year and along with a new hit single, "Girls Lie Too" (which went STRAIGHT to number 1) she received what could be called the Highest Honour any Country and Western Star could ask for; she was inducted into Grand Ole Opry on June 12, 2004 and is currently the ONLY Canadian Female Member.
In 2005 the prophetic LIFE GOES ON hit the shelves; as "She Didn't Have Time" climbed the charts her association with Mercury records disolved and in September that year she made the second big move of her career...
she came home, choosing the bright lights as Vancouver to hang her hat.
In 2007 she signed with BNA records and her first effort for them, the aptly named MY NEXT LIFE, is scheduled to be released in early 2008.

Emotional Girl.
I'm an emotional girl
I can't help myself
Sometimes I laugh
Sometimes I cry
Sometimes I do both and I don't know why
I got a Passionate heart
And that's just the way things are
You and me could give it a whirl
But I'm warning you, boy
I'm an emotional girl
I like music that's loud and lights down low
I like driving my car too fast
And dancing slow
Some folks may say I'm too extreme
'Cause I can't stop once I start
But I never could do anything
With half my heart
I'm an emotional girl
I can't help myself
Sometimes I laugh
Sometimes I cry
Sometimes I do both and I don't know why
I got a Passionate heart
And that's just the way things are
You and me could give it a whirl
But I'm warning you, boy
I'm an emotional girl
You and me could give it a whirl
But I'm warning you, boy
I'm an emotional girl
Hope you enjoyed this weeks Stampede Tunesday!

You know, Terri Clarke just isn't one of my favorites. Oh well. As for The Cools, lol, that is the name of the Crush Luther song that I liked, and if you listen to it you'll see The Cools is a (probably fictional) high school group.
Hi Wil
That is a great one Wil! I see my hubby was here bragging..lol! Stop in soon and have a good week.
Of course, it doesn't compare to having your tent lifted and taken to Kansas, though. I wonder if Dorothy and Toto might give it back some day?
