I was quite surpised when I went looking for info on this weeks Tunesday artist - surprised by the fact that theres very little information and that hes a utility infielder for the Milwaukee Brewers....
Born in Montreal on May 31, 1962, he traveled frequently as a child, living in the Bahamas with his father, but primarily following his mother through Mexico, Spain, and Florida, among other places. It didnt matter where he lived tho - his first love was always with him; MUSIC. At 13, he sang for Tom Jones and recorded with Paul Anka in Las Vegas... at 14 he started to write his own music/lyrics and dreamed of becoming a singer/songwriter and recording artist. His early efforts to sign with Canadian record companies were fruitless; he escaped to New York and met Billy Joel and worked in Long Island, New York to complete a demo of his first songs but unable to land a contract he returned to Canada, eventually signing with Aquarius Records.
In 1983 he released his MONSTER debut album, recorded in Manchester England in the spring of 1982 with producers Jon Astley and Phil Chapman; Eric Clapton lent his guitar stylings to the album. FIRST OFFENSE screamed to the top of the charts with this weeks featured tune, one which is now his signature song...whats even more surprising is it was a last minute addition to the disc. Its also contained two other semi hits,"She Got The Radio" and "It Ain't Enough" that helped keep it his album at the top of the Canadian Charts for almost 6 months!
He followed that up two years later with BOY IN THE BOX which produced not only the title song and "Lamp at Midnite" it also contained his second smash hit "Never Surrender" - instant notariaty led to, of all things, an offer for the lead in a movie...
...which he turned down...
BACK TO THE FUTURE turned out to be a BLOCKBUSTER starring ANOTHER great Canadian Micheal J. Fox. Ironically it wasnt the ONLY offer he passed on that came back to haunt him.. he was also asked to record the song Danger Zone for the hit film TOP GUN - one that went on to be a monster hit for Kenny Loggins.
1986s FIELDS OF FIRE produced three very popular singles; "Everything In My Heart", "I Am By Your Side" and a well received remake of the Elvis classic "Can't Help Falling In Love" but it was something else that happened that year that entrenched this singer as one of Canadas all time best.. BOY IN THE BOX achieved DIAMOND STATUS (1,000,000 sold) in Canada and this artist was recognized as the most popular male artist by a National Canadian survey.
But that seemed to be the peak....
Young Man Running was released in 1988 and while it was critically acclaimed it failed to produce a chart topper; the singles "In Your Soul" and "Spot You In A Coalmine" were probably its only saving grace. 1990s BANG faired just as badly and, as it would turn out, his SINGLES album, released in '91 was his last for Aquarius/EMI.
In 1992, he signed with Sire/Warner Bros in the U.S and released the commercial disappointment ATTITUDE AND VIRTUE which featured the song "Love and Money" with Terence Trent D_arby; "92 Days Of Rain" did its best to climb the charts but it was the song "Baby When I Call Your Name" that paid off.... not on the charts but it was this tune that attracted French Canadian singer Julie Masse... stepping away from his own career this artist produced and wrote several songs on her first English album, CIRCLE OF ONE. The two singers fell in love and would later marry in June 2002, on a hilltop in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
After the time away and some personal difficulties he returned to the recording studio, this time for Sony Records who released 1996s Self titled Album and 98s JADE which both met with limited success...
It seemed the run was over for the BOY IN THE BOX..
He currently resides in the Bahamas with wife Julie and their three daughters, India (age
, Dante (age 5), and River (age 3).
He IS
Corey Hart
And his signature song.....
Sunglasses at Night
And I wear my sunglasses at night
So I can, So I can
Keep track of visions in my eyes
While she's deceiving me, she cuts my security
Has she got control of me
I turn to her and say
Don't switch the blade on the guy in shades; oh no
Don't masquerade with the guy in shades; oh no
You got it made with the guy in shades; oh no
And I wear my sunglasses at night
So I can, So I can
Forget my name while you collect your claim
And I wear my sunglasses at night
So I can, So I can
See the light that's right before my eyes
While she's deceiving me, she cuts my security
Has she got control of me
I turn to her and say
Don't switch the blade on the guy in shades; oh no
Don't masquerade with the guy in shades; oh no
You got it made with the guy in shades; oh no
Hope you enjoyed this weeks TUNESDAY REDUX!

And now that I know the actual words in the chorus
, I can sing along with them the next time I hear the song on the radio.
nor did I know that he'd turned down offers to create what would have turned out to be real boosts to his musical career. Ya learn somethin' new every day, eh?
), but as soon as I saw the name of this week's song, the music started playing in my head right away. (Hmm... does that mean I'm crazy?
